🎶Meet our Musicfest Adjudicator: Romina Di Gasbarro

A 2020 JUNO Award nominee for her album Risorgimento, Romina has performed and collaborated extensively throughout Canada and internationally. In addition to her work as a recording artist and performer, she is an experienced adjudicator, choral and band director, and music educator who has worked with numerous festivals and arts organizations across Ontario.

🎶Meet our Musicfest Adjudicator: Jason Lee

Returning as an adjudicator for Musicfest 2026, Jason brings extensive experience as both a performer and educator.
He earned a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from McGill University, studying under renowned pianist Marina Mdivani.Jason has performed in recitals, events, and competitions across Canada, earning first prize at the CCC Toronto Piano Competition. With over a decade of experience teaching piano and music theory, he has also worked extensively as a collaborative pianist with choirs throughout Ontario. He currently serves as collaborative pianist for the Hamilton Children’s Choir.

Music theory is a study that allows us to understand the language of music.

Knowing music theory can open up new possibilities to writing and arranging music and musical concepts. Music theory is an essential component for learning the fundamentals of music, and being able to truly excel at playing a musical instrument.

Learning music theory sets students on the right path to understanding how music is written and how to
interpret musical notes.

RCM’s Music Theory Placement Tool is a FREE tool that enables students to self-assess their approximate music theory levels in the RCM curriculum by answering a series of questions and helps determine proficiency in each section of theory.

By completing the placement test (approximately an hour in length), a customized learning recommendation will help identify gaps in theory knowledge – helping both students and teachers focus on key concepts and work towards the next theory level.

Basic music theory examines key signatures, pitches, intervals, scales, chords, and other music fundamentals. It also provides insight into the basic building blocks of music that form harmony, melody, and rhythm.

If you or your child is considering learning a musical instrument, musical theory is the fundamental backbone behind the learning process. Incorporating music theory into your private music lessons can give you a boost should you wish to study music at the
university/college level, pursue music composition, or if you just enjoy learning the theory behind the songs you know and love.

🎶Meet our Musicfest Adjudicator: Fabio Biagarelli

Fabio is an educator and musician with over 30 years of experience teaching in diverse educational settings. He has led numerous ensembles, served as an adjudicator, and brings extensive expertise in both the Ontario and International Baccalaureate music programs.

His leadership has taken student musicians on international tours across the United States, Europe, and China, where they performed and engaged with global musical traditions. As a guitarist, he has performed in pop, rock, and jazz ensembles, with additional interests in composition and emerging music technology.

Biagiarelli is recognized as a dedicated and innovative educator whose engaging teaching style has inspired and shaped countless young musicians.

🎶 Meet our Musicfest Adjudicator: Christopher Siu

Christopher is an accomplished pianist and educator, holding a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance from the University of Toronto. A prize-winning performer from a young age, he has appeared at renowned venues including Roy Thomson Hall, the Four Seasons Centre, and CBC’s Glenn Gould Studio.
An active collaborative pianist and experienced adjudicator, Christopher regularly works with musicians across festivals and recitals, bringing a thoughtful, encouraging approach that helps students refine their technique and artistry.
We’re excited for our pianists to learn and grow from his insight this Musicfest. 🎹✨
